Digital Photograpy

This is a view of one of the windows in the Great Hall in Kohl Mansion from the third floor.  It is an example of  balance and contrast.

This photo was taken while lying down in the middle of the cafeteria looking up at the ceiling. It is an example of pattern, value, and contrast.

A group of chairs were set up around a table in the Great Hall for an event and this shot was taken from the third floor of the mansion. It is an example of pattern, movement, and contrast.

This picture was taken in the cafeteria and is an example of movement, contrast, and value.

This picture was taken on the Servant Stairs in the Kohl Mansion and is an example of movement, line, and color.

This is a photo of the bird bath in the rose garden.

This statue surrounded by vines in the rose garden was a great example of texture.

This Dunny from Kidrobot is an example of space.

This line of Dunnies from Kidrobot is an example of unity.

This is an example of color.

This picture was taken in the rose garden outside the Kohl Mansion and is an example of balance.
For our "Digital Photography" project we had to take pictures that utilized the elements and principles of photography, (line, shape and form, value, color, space, texture, balance, unity, contrast, emphasis, pattern, and movement.) I took my pictures around campus and my house.

Before Pictures of Desk

These are before pictures of the desk that I'm using for my "chair" project this semester. It's one of the old desks from the basement at Kohl Mansion. I'm going to sand it down and prime it, then after all the prep work is done I'm going to graffiti all over it. It's going to be covered in graffiti, the drawers, underside, top, EVERYTHING. I will be using different styles of graffiti, throw-ups, tagging, stenciling, slaps, blockbusting, and I'll attempt wildstyle and piece. I'm pulling influence from various graffiti artists such as Banksy, d*face, Faile, Marc Jenkins, Shepard Fairey, and sickboy.

Black and White Contour Painting (stools)

This was the first project of the semester. We were to first draw a contour line drawing of the stools stacked on top of each other. The drawing was the divided into sections which cut the stools into halves and thirds. The sections were then colored in in an alternating pattern of black and white. Contour line was used to outline the stools and the pattern of contrasting black and white makes the piece look more interesting and abstract. There is a balance of positive and negative space.

Student Council Sweater Design

Original Front Design

Original Back Design

Final Product
I jumped at the opportunity to design the sweaters for Student Council this year. Since the the theme for the year is Disney, I tried to hold to that by designing Disney inspired sweaters. In order to avoid copyright infringement i had to distort the shape of Mickey's head and sorcerer's hat. I tried to create emphasis on mickey by keeping it as simple as possible. Emphasis is also achieve through the highly contrasting colors of white and black.

Expressive Portrait

Spray Paint, Acrylic, & Mixed Media
This was one of the most fun projects I have worked on this semester. It gave me a chance to incorporate my personal interests into my art. My favorite band McFly has a song called "Star Girl" and one of their verses in the song is "Galaxy Defenders stay forever". I used that verse as the inspiration for my piece. I first spray painted the back ground with black spray paint for space. I used a sponge brush to create the galaxy using shades of white, blue, red, and yellow. One of the lead singers, Tom Fletcher, has the symbol of a lion in their band, so I also tried to incorporate that into my portrait. I cut out a stencil of a lion and spray painted it on the black background using metallic gold spray paint. To incorporate the lyrics of the song into my piece I used polymer glue to transfer it onto the empty space where my portrait would be. I chose to only paint from my eyes up and left my hair out. I used color in different parts of the piece to make each section pop and give depth. The texture of the galaxy using the sea sponge gives it a flowing rhythm.
